Why are we so noisy?

images

I know, I know.. Indians are generally deeply religious and want to celebrate every religious festival with fanfare but do we have to go thru the torture of loud music, mostly dholak beaten like the dholaki is taking revenge on it. (Maybe he remembers how his wife did to him). Most of musical bands seem to be stuck in time as if the music has been passed to them in their genes and have been playing the same songs for last 30-40 years. It starts with Govinda Aala re (Shammi Kapoors song) to Bholi surat dil ke khotay (Bhagwans song). And for the life of me I cant understand why they play Yeh desh hai veer jawano ka for baarat? Its a shaheed type of song mourning the groom?

I am bracing myself for a season of mindless dholaks and shrill sounds of loudspeaker with a sequence of Govinda, Ganesh chaturthi and Garba.

  1. I am willing to accept that people want music to celebrate - but why is it so loud??? SO loud that you can not hear youself think!!!
The systems set up have only one function - make it as loud as possible. That is how your bhakti is measured, is it??
And when they play songs - there is absolutely NO sense to what they are playing!! - "Mere anganeme tumhara kya kaam hai" - Lord Ganesha must be so thrilled to hear that song played for him!!!
Or "Mei hoo Don" - Is Ganesh singing that? Or the mandal telling Ganesh about their character???
